Biopolymers 2020

A circular economy based on renewable resources can make an essential contribution to a sustainable economy with reduced carbon dioxide emissions. In order to reach this aim, we need to develop novel manufacturing processes to efficiently use renewable resources and residues from e.g. agriculture, forestry or food industry.

Only by an interdisciplinary dialogue and cross-sectoral cooperation it will be possible to find solutions to replace fossil raw materials and realize more sustainable products by developing appropriate cycles for bio-based materials. Experts see great opportunities for both companies and academia. Universities can take on a technological pioneering role developing resource-saving processes. Bio-based innovations, sustainable production processes and environmentally friendly products will enable companies to get ready for the future market. The potential is enormous, since users from numerous industries benefit from new bio-based materials.

This year’s Online-Forum and Partnering focuses on process technologies to produce green chemicals, bio-based materials and products based on renewable raw materials. Innovations in bioplastics, technical biopolymers and processes from industrial biotechnology will be presented and financing options for the biological transformation will be addressed.
