SUMMARY:HERAKLION 2019 – Crete Island\, Greece
DESCRIPTION:HERAKLION 2019\n7th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management\n\nJune 26 – June 29\, Crete Island\, Greece\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nObjective\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Conference aims to address the significant issue of sustainable solid waste management through the promotion of safe practices & effective technologies. The Conference focuses mainly on modern solid waste technologies. It aims to stimulate the interest of scientists and citizens and inform them about the latest developments in the field of municipal solid waste management. Separation at source\, Biological Treatment\, the treatment at central facilities\, waste prevention\, biowaste utilization\, recycling promotion\, Waste-to-energy technologies & energy recovery\, smart technologies for waste management\, sludge management\, agricultural and livestock waste\, management of specific waste streams (construction & demolition waste\, waste from electrical and electronic equipment\, etc.)\, biotechnology\, Best Available techniques\, symbiosis networks\, energy consumption and saving\, carbon footprint and water footprint\, zero-waste initiatives\, plastics and bioplastics\, marine litter constitute main conference subjects. Special attention will be drawn to the valorization prospects & the products from solid waste\, such as: biofuels\, compost\, materials\, etc. It is also our ambition to strengthen the link of the applied research with industry. Hazardous waste & Household hazardous waste also constitute target area of the conference. Emphasis will be placed on circular economy in all key action areas (production\, consumption\, waste management\, secondary raw materials\, innovation\, investment & monitoring) and all priority sectors (food waste\, plastics\, biomass and bio-based-products\, construction & demolition waste\, critical raw materials)\, as well as waste management issues and resource efficiency in islands and generally isolated and remote areas. \nRegarding the extensive plastic waste session\, Symbol of 20th century modernity and post-war industrial progress\, plastic has revolutionised everyday life in all sectors: construction\, automotive industry\, electronics and\, above all\, the food industry. Today\, providential plastic has turned into a time bomb\, with the revelation of the long-term effects of plastic waste\, accused of contaminating our food and polluting our environment. Giant plastic vortexes are developing in the heart of our oceans. And to make matters worse\, it has been officially recognized that invisible particles of plastic waste have worked their way into our food. \nBefore we rush blindly into actions\, you are invited to inform the debate and answer the question: which eco-efficient solutions to contribute solving the issue of plastic waste ? \nJoin our brainstorming session chaired by Prof. Nathalie Gontard (INRA) on the latest advances about «Plastic waste’s impacts minimization» by submitting your abstract on one of the following aspects: \n\n1- Flows of multi-sized (macro-\, micro- and nano-) plastic waste\, including current management strategies\n2- Toxicity and eco-toxicity of multi-sized plastic waste particles (especially at long-term / high exposure)\n3- Eco-efficient solutions to reduce plastic waste’s impacts:\n\n3.1 Reducing plastic consumption: plastic-free practices\, alternatives (bio-) materials..\n3.2 Collecting and converting plastic waste: ocean cleaning initiatives\, mechanical\, enzymatic and chemical recycling\, incineration\, pyrolysis ..\n\n\n4- Plastic waste environmental impacts: assessment and prediction\n5- Multi-actors approaches and stakeholders behaviour related to plastic waste such as consumer perception\, policy makers awareness\, industrial lobbying\, legislation and R&D investments etc…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Conference will provide an opportunity to bring together scientists & professionals from government departments\, industries\, Municipalities\, private institutions\, research & education institutions\, being a forum for the exchange of the most recent ideas\, techniques & experiences in all areas of solid waste management. A special full one-day workshop will also focus on representatives of local authorities and municipalities in order to promote integrated solid waste management schemes. \nA site visit – tour will also take place on Saturday 29th June 2019 including visits to waste management facilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:23rd ICABR CONFERENCE – Ravello\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:23rd ICABR CONFERENCE – International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research\n\nJune 4 – June 7\, Ravello\, Italy\n\n\n\nThe 2019 ICABR conference will focus on innovations\, finance for the development and commercialization of these innovations and the regulations and policies that encourage or restrict innovations. It will explore the role of innovation\, finance and regulation regarding the development of sustainable food and health systems that can contribute to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. \n\nInnovation continues to be an important driver of growth of the Bioeconomy in both wealthy and developing countries and their responses to environmental challenges and climate change. Gene editing\, microbial ecology in soils and human stomachs\, digitalization and digital transformation\, robotics and other technologies create opportunities and threats to important stakeholders in the bioeconomy. Innovations in information and communication technologies can influence the adoption and demand for practices and products of the bioeconomy by better conveying and translating the benefits\, risks and trade-offs. The conference will seek a better understanding of how innovations in these areas work and the potential impact of disruptive innovations on the bioeconomy and society at large. \nFinance is key to the development and adoption of innovation. Innovations in finance such as crowd funding\, block chains\, venture capital in developing markets and impact investing are impacting research\, innovation\, adoption of new technology and economic development.  Infusions of government capital from China and the US and mergers and acquisitions in the agricultural input industries and the food industry can increase or reduce research and innovation by the large and small firms. \nRegulations and policies can provide incentives for innovation but can also be important constraints to the development of the bioeconomy. Policies like Brexit and the US-China trade dispute plus growing restrictions on migration are disrupting global flows of innovations\, outputs and inputs for the Bioeconomy. Providing regulations and standards that assure consumers of the safety of new technology without stopping the development of innovative new technology remains a challenge to policy makers and stakeholders. The possible constraints from regulations were highlighted by the European Union Court of Justice’s decision that varieties developed by mutagenesis should be regulated as genetically engineered organism. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Euro BioMAT 2019\nEuropean Symposium and Exhibition on Biomaterials and Related Areas\n\n08.05.2019 – 09.05.2019\, Weimar\, Germany\n\n\n\nBased on the huge success of the previous four Euro BioMATSymposia 2011 in Jena and in 2013\, 2015 and 2017 in Weimar this international conference will be held every two years in the Jena-Weimar region. \nThe symposium Euro BioMAT 2019\, 08.-09. May 2019\, addresses the growing interest of science and industry in the different aspects of the creation\, characterization\, testing and application of bio-materials and closely related areas. The motivation is not only the recent scientific progress and new challenges in this exciting\, strongly interdisciplinary field of science and engineering. Materials scientists\, physicists\, chemists\, biologists in industrial R&D as well as medical professionals are increasingly facing situations\, where materials are confronted with high performance requirements and a challenging biological environment at the same time. \nMuch of the growth in the area of biomaterials emerged in the USA and Asia over the last years but Europe is gaining ground with a fast and steady growth in this field. The German Materials Society (DGM) and its panel of experts in biomaterials address thesedevelopments with the Euro BioMAT 2019 in Weimar. Euro BioMAT 2019 will present and discuss the current state of pro-gress and novel trends in development\, characterization\, application\, testing and modelling of biomaterials in basic science and industry. In addition\, this symposium will bring together experts in closely related areas\, such as biomimetics\, biomineralization and biopolymers. \nThe organizers at the DGM feel a need to serve the European bio-materials community beyond other European and world biomaterials congresses with a compact two-day meeting which brings together fascinating science and stimulating people in a delightful setting in historic Weimar in the very heart of Europe. The program of the Euro BioMAT 2019 will comprise several invited plenary lectures as well as oral and poster presentations. The organizers look forward to receiving many contributions to the Euro BioMAT 2019. \n\n

SUMMARY:Enabling Sustainable Bioeconomy Transition - Karlstad\, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:People and Networks Matter – Enabling Sustainable Bioeconomy Transition\n\n27.03.2019 – 28.03.2019\, Karlstad\, Sweden\n\n\nTransforming the current economy into a ‘new’ bioeconomy needs changed institutional frameworks at regional and national level\, sensitive to and inclusive of placebased knowledge. This conference seeks to better understand the role of people and networks in this transition. Welcome to Karlstad 27-28 of March 2019! \n\nNew innovative products and services continue to emerge\, which will further increase the demand for biomass. This transition leads to both an increased demand for landbased biomass and its multiple use. Important questions emerge: How to use the land? How can different interests be combined? \nAt this conference\, industry\, academia and public organisations will discuss challenges and opportunities and the role of people and networks in the new bioeconomy era. Overall\, we need a better and nuanced understanding of the societal impacts of this transition in different contexts and for different stakeholders. \nThe conference  is a place for: \n\nInteraction between practitioners\, policy makers and academics\nJoint reflection and development of a roadmap\, strategies and policy recommendations to enable smoother transition towards bio-based economies  in the Nordic countries\nPractitioners to learn from good business cases  and practices\nNetworking: Meet businesses\, academia & policy makers working for sustainable bioeconomy transition\nCo-creation of policy recommendations and contribution to policy briefs.\n\nThe conference will also highlight some good examples from the region of Värmland \nForest based bioeconomy in Värmland – a diversity of actors working together. Examples from Värmland showing the work by different actors; business\, university and regional authorities in collaboration with civil society\, supporting a transition to a sustainable forest based bioeconomy.\nKey-note speakers from practice and science fields include: Dr. Gabriel Henrique Lui\, Coordinator of Forest Economy Dpt.\, Federal Ministry of Environment Brazil\, Prof. Pekka Leskinen\, Head of Bioeconomy Programme\, European Forest Institute\, Thea Lyng Thomsen\, Development consultant at GreenLab\, Denmark\, and Prof. Olav Wicken\, Professor at the Centre for Technology\, Innovation and Culture at University of Oslo\, Norway. \nREGISTRATION \nThe registration is now open. \nConference fee: 2 300 SEK (exclusive VAT). \nLast date of registration: 27th of February 2019. SUMMARY:24. Fachtagung - Bioökonomie 3.0 - Dresden\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:24. \nDie 24. Fachtagung “Nutzung nachwachsender Rohstoffe – Bioökonomie 3.0” findet vom 21.-22. März 2019 im Konferenzzentrum des IHD Dresden statt. \n
