DESCRIPTION:Ecomondo Event: The key role of regions to address the development of bioeconomy at local level\n\nOctober 7\, Rimini\, Italy\n\n\n\nThe key role of regions to address the development of bioeconomy at local level \nOrganized by: Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee and Italian Cluster of Green Chemistry SPRING \nAs reported in the Manifesto launched in Bratislava in 2016\, “the European bioeconomy should be based on sustainable and circular development at regional and local level (bio-regions and bio-communities) considering various elements: ecology\, resilience\, biodiversity\, management of water resources and the cultural heritage”. The Bioeconomy Stakeholders Panel also theorises a model of “sustainable regions”\, based on the leverage effect of the Regions\, with particular attention to the quality of the territories and local economies\, supporting the creation of virtuous interregional chains. At European level\, the “regional bioeconomies” are increasingly recognized as a key element to achieve the goals of sustainable development and climate action of the United Nations. The Italian regions have already proved to be widely motivated to keep alive rural economies\, implementing regional economic cycles and supporting local agro-industrial projects with the strategic idea of ​​using bio-resources in a more innovative and efficient way. The conference aims to illustrate: i) the role that the Regions can play in boosting bioeconomy multidisciplinary knowledge from a cultural and educational point of view; ii) tools to implement regional bioeconomy strategies within the Regions in order to enhance the bio-based sector and to support interregional cooperation; iii) Experiences from the Permanent Working-Group between SPRING Cluster and the Italian Regions. \n

Das Deutsche Biomasseforschungszentrum g GmbH (DBFZ) unterstützt den sechsten Kongress dieser Veranstaltungsreihe als ideeller Partner. \nDie Biogasbranche leistet einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Erreichung der Klimaschutzziele. Im Jahre 2017 erzeugte sie in Deutschland rund 54 Mrd. kWh Energie für Strom\, Wärme und Kraftstoff. Several policy makers\, project leaders\, companies and cluster representatives from different geographical locations are invited in order to address the topic in a comprehensive manner and connect sectors and stakeholders. Separation at source\, Biological Treatment\, the treatment at central facilities\, waste prevention\, biowaste utilization\, recycling promotion\, Waste-to-energy technologies & energy recovery\, smart technologies for waste management\, sludge management\, agricultural and livestock waste\, management of specific waste streams (construction & demolition waste\, waste from electrical and electronic equipment\, etc.)\, biotechnology\, Best Available techniques\, symbiosis networks\, energy consumption and saving\, carbon footprint and water footprint\, zero-waste initiatives\, plastics and bioplastics\, marine litter constitute main conference subjects. Special attention will be drawn to the valorization prospects & the products from solid waste\, such as: biofuels\, compost\, materials\, etc. It is also our ambition to strengthen the link of the applied research with industry. Hazardous waste & Household hazardous waste also constitute target area of the conference. Today\, providential plastic has turned into a time bomb\, with the revelation of the long-term effects of plastic waste\, accused of contaminating our food and polluting our environment. Giant plastic vortexes are developing in the heart of our oceans. DESCRIPTION:Workshop on Circular Bioeconomy for rural development through biomass\n\nJune 12\, Madrid\, Spain\n\n\n\nThe Workshop on Circular Bioeconomy for rural development through biomass is organized by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture\, fisheries and food\, ASAJA (Association of Young Farmers) and CIRCE. ­During the event\, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture will present the bioeconomy strategy framework and the opportunities that the new CAP (common agricultural policy) offers to rural communities. Also\, representatives from DG AGRI (European Commission) and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) will present the vision from the European point of view and the existing R&D&I opportunities. \nCIRCE and ASAJA will disseminate the results of the H2020 project “Up_running”about the use of agrarian pruning and plantation removal for energy purposes. Hand in hand with this project coordinated by CIRCE\, several success stories of valorisation of woody biomass will be presented by different entities. This event will be broadcasted in streaming. DESCRIPTION:23rd ICABR CONFERENCE – International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research\n\nJune 4 – June 7\, Ravello\, Italy\n\n\n\nThe 2019 ICABR conference will focus on innovations\, finance for the development and commercialization of these innovations and the regulations and policies that encourage or restrict innovations. It will explore the role of innovation\, finance and regulation regarding the development of sustainable food and health systems that can contribute to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. \n\nInnovation continues to be an important driver of growth of the Bioeconomy in both wealthy and developing countries and their responses to environmental challenges and climate change. Gene editing\, microbial ecology in soils and human stomachs\, digitalization and digital transformation\, robotics and other technologies create opportunities and threats to important stakeholders in the bioeconomy. Innovations in information and communication technologies can influence the adoption and demand for practices and products of the bioeconomy by better conveying and translating the benefits\, risks and trade-offs. The conference will seek a better understanding of how innovations in these areas work and the potential impact of disruptive innovations on the bioeconomy and society at large. \nFinance is key to the development and adoption of innovation. Innovations in finance such as crowd funding\, block chains\, venture capital in developing markets and impact investing are impacting research\, innovation\, adoption of new technology and economic development.  Infusions of government capital from China and the US and mergers and acquisitions in the agricultural input industries and the food industry can increase or reduce research and innovation by the large and small firms. \nRegulations and policies can provide incentives for innovation but can also be important constraints to the development of the bioeconomy. Policies like Brexit and the US-China trade dispute plus growing restrictions on migration are disrupting global flows of innovations\, outputs and inputs for the Bioeconomy. Providing regulations and standards that assure consumers of the safety of new technology without stopping the development of innovative new technology remains a challenge to policy makers and stakeholders. The possible constraints from regulations were highlighted by the European Union Court of Justice’s decision that varieties developed by mutagenesis should be regulated as genetically engineered organism. \n\n
