SUMMARY:ICT-BIOCHAIN Train the trainer webinar
DESCRIPTION:ICT-BIOCHAIN Train the trainer webinar\n\nApril 2\, 2020\, online\n\n\n\nICT-BIOCHAIN Train the trainer webinar \nThis webinar will present the tools developed by ICT-BIOCHAIN and STAR-ProBio. \nEach of the initiatives will introduce the best practices and lessons learned during its development\, all the information needed to replicate Digital Innovation Hubs across the European Bioeconomy regions\, and the tools they developed to enhance efficiency in the biomass supply chain and sustainability in the bio-based industry. \nThe ICT-BIOCHAIN initiative aims to promote the adoption of ICT solutions\, IoT and industry strategies 4.0 in order to improve the logistics of biomass in the region through the development of regional ‘Digital Innovation Hubs’ across the European Bioeconomy regions. The platform developed by this project will be launched and presented during the webinar. \nThe STAR-ProBio project works to cover gaps in the existing framework for sustainability assessment of bio-based products\, and to improve consumer acceptance for bio-based products by identifying the critical sustainability issues in their value chains. \nFor more information and registration\, please visit the website of the webinar.

SUMMARY:International Conference on Forests for Biodiversity and Climate - Brussels\, Belgium
DESCRIPTION:International Conference on Forests for Biodiversity and Climate\n\nFebruary 4 – February 5\, 2020\, Brussels\, Belgium\n\n\n\nInternational Conference on Forests for Biodiversity and Climate \nThe world’s forests are in serious danger from deforestation and forest degradation\, with a forest area of 1.3 million square kilometres lost between 1990 and 2016. Pressures on EU forest ecosystems due to climate change and unsustainable forest management are a reason for concern and are expected to increase in the future\, due to increasing demand of timber coming from the bioenergy the bioeconomy sectors\, in a context where illegal logging continues to be recorded in a number of Countries. Overall\, protecting forests means protecting biodiversity and working for a climate neutral and climate resilient land. \nIn this context\, DG Environment organises an International Conference on Forest for Biodiversity and Climate on 4-5 February 2020 in Brussels.\n

Fossil-based resources are still the primary source instead of renewable bio-based resources. Also\, in Bavaria bioeconomy is a growing branch and the Bavarian government is developing a regional bioeconomy strategy. For years there have been numerous activities in research and development\, for example the Campus Straubing\, branch of the Technical University of Munich\, that introduced the degree program bioeconomy this autumn. The Fachforum Bioökonomie will give current insights into the competences\, successes\, potentials and products of the bioeconomy in Bavaria. \n

SUMMARY:Ecomondo Event
DESCRIPTION:Ecomondo Event: The key role of regions to address the development of bioeconomy at local level\n\nOctober 7\, Rimini\, Italy\n\n\n\nThe key role of regions to address the development of bioeconomy at local level \nOrganized by: Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee and Italian Cluster of Green Chemistry SPRING \nAs reported in the Manifesto launched in Bratislava in 2016\, “the European bioeconomy should be based on sustainable and circular development at regional and local level (bio-regions and bio-communities) considering various elements: ecology\, resilience\, biodiversity\, management of water resources and the cultural heritage”. The Bioeconomy Stakeholders Panel also theorises a model of “sustainable regions”\, based on the leverage effect of the Regions\, with particular attention to the quality of the territories and local economies\, supporting the creation of virtuous interregional chains. At European level\, the “regional bioeconomies” are increasingly recognized as a key element to achieve the goals of sustainable development and climate action of the United Nations. The Italian regions have already proved to be widely motivated to keep alive rural economies\, implementing regional economic cycles and supporting local agro-industrial projects with the strategic idea of using bio-resources in a more innovative and efficient way. The conference aims to illustrate: i) the role that the Regions can play in boosting bioeconomy multidisciplinary knowledge from a cultural and educational point of view; ii) tools to implement regional bioeconomy strategies within the Regions in order to enhance the bio-based sector and to support interregional cooperation; iii) Experiences from the Permanent Working-Group between SPRING Cluster and the Italian Regions. \n

SUMMARY:European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology & the Bioeconomy – Brussels\, Belgium
DESCRIPTION:European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology & the Bioeconomy (EFIB) 2019\n\nSeptember 30 – October 2\, Brussels\, Belgium\n\n\n\nEFIB is the market leading annual event in Europe for Industrial Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy. \nIndustrial Biotechnology is currently worth €23 billion representing just 6% in sales of the overall worldwide chemicals market. However\, it is significantly out-performing the overall chemicals market at an impressive 20% annual growth rate and has the potential to become the dominant technology of tomorrow’s chemicals industry\, representing a huge future opportunity. \nDelivering on this opportunity will require significant investment\, innovation and value chain development and most importantly new collaborations across the sector. Additionally we are faced with important challenges posed by high energy prices\, the impact of the shale gas boom on the development of biobased chemicals markets and the ongoing need for predictable\, coherent and supportive policy in the EU. \nIn order to understand and overcome these challenges and prosper in tomorrow’s bioeconomy\, for more than ten years\, industry experts throughout the vibrant and innovative biobased community have come together to one central location every year to discuss the key issues and gain a snapshot of the most significant developments on scale up of commercial biorefineries around the world. \nThat location is the European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology & the Bioeconomy (EFIB)\, where delegates are provided with an update on the status and outlook of biobased industries. EFIB is proud to foster engagement between policy makers\, a broad range of stakeholders connected with the existing biobased value chain and seeks to reach out to\, and include\, new interlocutors. \nIn the last decade\, EFIB delegates\, exhibitors\, sponsors and speakers have been showcasing innovative products and processes that deliver solutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Last year\, we celebrated the Industrial biotech communities’ latest achievements in harnessing the power of innovation to deliver solutions to global grand challenges. Influential brands and industry leaders met in Toulouse\, France\, with a broad range of stakeholders and policy makers to discuss the transformative potential of Industrial Biotechnology to create a smarter and more sustainable future. \n
